Private CHARLES EDGAR TIDMARSH, who was killed in France on August 8, was the only son of Mrs Ruth D. Tidmarsh. He was born at Golden Grove on September 28, 1890, and was educated at the Golden Grove and Modbury public schools. At the age of 16 he went with his mother and sister to live at Angle Vale, where he worked on his uncle's farm till he enlisted in May, 1916. He left Australia with the 4th Reinforcements of the 48th Battalion, on August 12 of that year. He was on Salisbury Plain until Christmas, when he left for France. In the following March he was sent to a London hospital, suffering severely from trench feet. Next he was attached to the Provost staff, and on December 28, 1917, was again sent to France, and was in the line till he met his death. He was a regular attendant of the Angle Vale Methodist Church and Sunday-school, and was loved by all for his upright manly qualities and sunny disposition. |
