SHEEDY Private James J. Sheedy, who was killed in action at the Dardanelles, was the youngest son of Mrs. M. Sheedy, widow of Virginia. He was 35 years of age, and was educated at the public school at Virginia. He was a member of the local football and cricket clubs, and was for some time secretary of the Virginia Branch of the U.L.U. Mr. Sheedy was a member of the Two Wells Light Horse, and when war broke out he was among the first to voulunteer as a member of the famous 10th Battalion. He was of fine physique and was very popular. |

Private ANDREW WILLIAM SHILLABEER was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Shillabeer, of "Attyford," One Tree Hill. He was born and lived all his life in the district, and was much esteemed for his gentlemanly and kindly disposition. He enlisted as soon as he was old, enough, and left for the front in November,1916. During his training he had two severe attacks of pneumonia, but eventually recovered, and was sent to France, where he was killed in action on October 8, shortly before attaining his 21st year. A younger brother is serving with the troops abroad. |

The Advertiser 20th September 1917 Private Ernest Simpson was the eldest son of the late Mr. Simpson and Mrs G. H. Simpson, of Gawler. He was educated at the Gawler public school. He enlisted in September, 1914, and landed on Gallipoli on April 25, 1915. He was wounded after being five weeks in the trenches, but returned to Gallipoli when he recovered. He was twice on the Suez Canal, where he caught malarial fever. He went to France from England on May 4 last, and was killed in action on August 7. Prior to enlisting he was making boxes at Renmark. He took a keen interest in all sports and had many friends. His age was 22 years and 8 months. |

THE LATE PRIVATE SMITHAM. Mrs. E. Smitham, of Gilberton, late of King-street, Mile-End, has been notified by the military authorities, that her husband Private Charles Gordon Smitham, was killed in action in France on June 10. Private Smitham, prior to enlisting, was a much esteemed member of the police force. He was a native of Penfield, near Gawler, and was the youngest son of Mr. W. Smitham. He was an enthusiastic cricketer, and was a member of the Thebarton Club. The deceased, who had lived the greater part of his life in Adelaide had a wide circle of friends, and being of a genial disposition, was greatly respected. He joined the 50th. Battalion, 3rd reinforcements, on April 1, 1916, and sailed for Europe on July 13, of the same year. |

WALTER STANLEY. On Tuesday evening word was received, here that another,of our Ramco lads, Pte. Walter Stanley, had paid the supreme sacrifice in the great struggle in France. He was well known and respected, here having come up with his brother, Mr. R. Stanley and afterwards obtained an orchard of his own. He enlisted in September, 1915 and' left for England early in the next year. A. short time ago he was reported wounded but this was afterwards corrected and now has come the sad news of his death in action during the fighting last month. Chronicle 3rd August 1918 Private WALTER STANLEY, youngest son of Mrs. Stanley, Keyneton, was killed in action in France on June 28. He enlisted at Ramco, on the Murray, where he worked his holding. He was also well known and much respected in Eden Valley and in Williamstown. He was a man of sterling character, and took a deep interest in religious work. He was a member of the Church of Christ, and his fellow church members recognised his worth by appointing him a delegate to the conference. His youngest sister, Nurse May Stanley, is on the staff of the military hospital in Deolili, in India. |

STEVENS - On the 27th June at First Canadian Casualty Clearing Station, died of wounds, Private William Parr Stevens. He gave his life, his best, his all - Inserted by his loving friend, Alice Garratt, Falcon avenue, Mile End. Chronicle (Adelaide, S.A.) 15-7-1916 THE LATE PRIVATE W. P. STEVENS. Mr Charles B. Stevens, of Falcon avenue, Mile-End, has been notified by the military authorities that his son, (Private W P. Stevens), died from wounds received in action on June 27 last. Private Stevens was 33 years of age. He was born at Peachey Belt and was the youngest son of Charles B and the late Elizabeth Stevens. He enlisted on the West (Coast in July last year, and left Adelaide in October. Private Stevens was of fine physique, being 6 ft in height. He possessed a generous disposition. |
